Sugar Bowl Challenge - 70

There's a new challenge over on the Sugar Bowl today. We have a fab sketch from the lovely Sweetie Maria Therese and the option is 'Clean and Simple'.

Now this challenge is right up my street as I am very challenged when it comes to using embellishments! I love them and I have nothing but admiration for those card makers who can add a multitude of gorgeous embellies and create a fabulous card jam packed full of detail. I drool over these cards, but I just cannot make them myself. They always end up looking like a right dogs dinner!

This adorable little sweetheart is from the Fairy Glen range of stamps and is called Charlotte. As always she's been watercoloured with a mix of DI's, SU inkers and Nick Bantock inkers. As the sketch was just a single layer I chose this beautiful paper from Pion design. The sentiment was a freebie in a magazine, the flower is a MFT die, and the swirly thing is one of my Spellbinders dies. Her wings have been liberally drowned in glamour dust as is befitting a little fairy.
And that's about it..simples!

The prize for one lucky winner is a choice of any 4 Sugar Nellie stamps, but if there are 100+ entries then the prize will increase to any 6 Sugar Nellie stamps.

For all the details on how to enter please visit the Sugar Bowl blog, where you can also see all the gorgeous cards from the other Sweeties for your inspiration.

Thanks for looking.
Love Elaine xxx

  30. This is a beautiful card, Elaine! I love all the Fairy Glen stamps!

I too have issues with embellishments! They never seem to look right, I don't know how some of the 'over-the-top with embellies' girls do it!

  35. I love the way you've coloured her flower to reflect those in the patterned paper & the way you have layered your die-cut flower to mimic them as well. The little star in her hair really picks up on the central flower shape around the pearl too. The scattering of pearls on her skirt are a lovely touch.

  38. Wow Elaine, stunning work. Having read your essay I now know how long it takes you to create your works of art and I appreciate the inspiration you give me. As with some of your other commenters I am still trying to improve my Promarker colouring but I would love to be able to colour with DIs and get the results you do. Work doesn't half get in the way though!!!!

    Take care hugs Ali x

  39. Who needs ooooodles of embellies when a card looks as good as this one! I'm always beating myself up that I can embellish like the big girls, but have just given up and decided to keep it simple. Love your card, it's fabulous, Jo x

  41. Hi Elaine! Sorry I have not dropped by in AAAA-GES! Your card is bloomin' gorgeous and so beautifully coloured. In my humble opinion, you have got the embellies spot on.

I'm on the fence about heavily embellished cards - some crafters can do it beautifully and add loads of embllies that are perfectly placed and compliment everything, but I often see cards that look really over-embellished and distract from the image. Personally, I have a very hard time adding embellies and probably spend 3 times as long fiddling with what to add and where to add than the time it takes to colour the image and make the card base! LOL!

Hope you're having a great start to the week.

    Hugs, Sem x
