I'm back with a card for the new Sugar Bowl challenge, but first I would like to say a big welcome to my new Sweetie Sisters Fiona and Cathy, it's fabulous to have these two talented girlies join our happy little team of Sugar lovers!
So, the sketch for this challenge has been provided by the sweetest Sweetie Marlene with the optional theme of 'For the Girls'.
I just feel I should warn you first..this is not the sort of card you will be expecting to see off me...
I love this image Honey Pip, I love the papers - First Edition Up,Up Away and I love the sketch...so you must know what I don't love!
I always watercolour my images and although I am reasonably happy with the majority of my efforts, it does take me a ridiculous amount of time, 4 or 5 hours to colour one image, hence the reason why I don't make many cards. So in an attempt to speed things up I bought some alcohol markers to try. This image was coloured with Copics and some polychromo pencils and I hate it! I hate the Copics for a start. The brush end is too fat and squidgy and I really struggled to control it. In fairness to Copics, this was my first (and last) attempt with them. I solemnly do swear never to use them again!
The prize for one lucky winner is a choice of any 4 Sugar Nellie stamps, but if there are 100+ entries then the prize will increase to any 6 Sugar Nellie stamps.
For all the details on how to enter please visit the Sugar Bowl blog, where you will also find lots of lovely and far better coloured cards for inspiration from the other sweeties.
Today's the day!! The sneak peaks have started over on the Sugar Nellie blog so head on over there and see for yourself why I'm so excited about this new release of rubbery loveliness!
Thanks for looking.
Love Elaine xxx

Wow Elaine, what a sweet gorgeous card!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
Hugs Heidy
But Elaine, she's gorgeous! And beautifully coloured, as far as I can see!
ReplyDeleteI now understand why your colouring is magical and sooooooo much better than mine......as much as I would love to spend longer colouring my images it's only a small fraction of the time you spend.
Gorgeous colours and papers! Susie x
Wowww that is a real beauty Elaine!!
ReplyDeleteHugs Kristel
Hi Elaine,
ReplyDeleteA gorgeous card and delish papers. Image is a little honey and I love your colouring regardless which medium you use. I have a few copics but decided for same reason as you not to get anymore because of fine detail. Maybe it is just me.
Weekend is coming up so whatever you are doing have a fab time.
hugs
Marion
Exactly my complaint about the Copics - too fat & squishy & difficult to control - but I bought mine way before I was colouring & believed it was my lack of colours that meant that I couldn't get good results - am still persevering as I have 170 or so of the things. But it's so refreshing to see someone else saying the same! I have honestly tried with umpteen different cardstocks, colour combinations etc....... but my main gripe is the ability to hold & control that squishy unpredicatble point. I still take hours to colour an image (even without copics) & sometimes it ends in the bin & I have to start again!!
ReplyDeleteI love what you have achieved with this little Pip - I think they will have to come & live with me sooner or later......... I am desperately missing my Sugar Fixes so shall be back as soon as the time thief imp gets licked into shape again.
Hope all goes well with today - results & the birthday boy.
Much love
Paula (PEP)
Hey you silly girl!! I swear, you must need glasses, sugar...because this card is drop dead gorgeous!! Your coloring is stunning! Let's face it, babe...you are an insanely talented artist, regardless of the medium you choose to use!!! Maybe someday I'll post my first Copic effort. You will wet your pants laughing! hehehehe!! I love this, my sweet friend...you are da bomb!! Big hugggggggs coming across the pond from me to you, Pat
ReplyDeleteWell for heavens sake I think you did a wonderful job with them! Just getting outside of your comfort zone I guess. I never use distress inks so to each his own. Gotta pop over and see the rest of the releases now, Happy Birthday Phil, get good grades Hal! Whew, think I remembered it all!
ReplyDeleteI dont know what you are complaining about Elaine that is stunning and your colouring is fabulous, so stop worrying give it some more practice, and if push comes to shove try the Tria pens as theyve got a very fine nib and beautiful colours in their pens. hugs Shirleyx
ReplyDeletewow, that is soooo cute
ReplyDeleteAwwww Elaine will you STOP being too hard & critical of your AWESOME creations I would be over the moon at this colouring, I use copics a bit always go back to me prismas..great layout think I might have to have a play at this chall!!

Hahaha Elaine; You are so funny! I think you did a great job on this Pip; and for being your first time coloring with copics; I would give you extra points and a super star! I have been practicing with my Copics for 2 years and I still think I need to improve. So I encourage you to give those Copics a few more trys:0)
ReplyDeleteOh no wonder your inked images are so fab! You put so much time into them!

Oh Elaine I think it's just fabulous, whats up with the colouring, maybe just have another go at it, I only use promarkers, but all that have copics reckon there the easier option.....Love your card anyway...and the colouring..lol..xxx
ReplyDeleteOh Elaine, she's just as adorable as can be and you rocked that sketch! Love your colors and your gorgeous coloring!!!
ReplyDeleteOh Elaine.... don't throw them away because your colouring looks fabulous! I'm sure lots of people would love to produce as good a shading as this!
ReplyDeleteYour card is lovely and I really love these little Pips... and how you have her dangling out of the circle!

ReplyDeletexx coops xx
Hi Elaine,
ReplyDeleteThis is just a gorgeous card and please don't trow your copics away. I just love the way it worked out, it's beautiful, your coloring.\
Hugs, Yvon
Elaine, you are too hard on yourself! Your card is gorgeous as always. I don't think a one time try with Copics will get perfect results. For a first attempt with the pens, this is fabulous! Don't give up! I still think they're way faster to use than DIs. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteI would be so proud to claim this as my work.....I could never achieve a result like this, It is beautiful and so is the sketch and papers, happy birthday to the hubs lol
ReplyDeleteTilly
this is really stunning Elaine, and as usual the coloring is beautifull!
ReplyDeleteHugs tiets
This is so beautiful, Elaine! I love that shade of green! I hated Copics when I first got them as well... but now I love them! It just took some persistence, and having enough colours to blend properly.
ReplyDeleteThis is my favourite card for this challenge, it really pops out, the colours and colouring are fab, take care sweetie, Hugs Sarah B X
ReplyDeleteMmmmm lush, my kind of colour combo and as always stunningly put together and fantastic colouring.
ReplyDeleteBig crafty hugs,
Erika.
Hi Elaine,
ReplyDeleteYour colouring is beautiful, I can't see anything wrong, but I do use promarkers and find them harder to use than my distress inks. So I much prefer watercolouring, a beautiful creation.
Happy crafting
Tracy x
If I could achieve the wonderful coloring you've done on this ABSOLUTELY adorable image I would be doing a major happy dance shouting for joy !!! You really ROCK using those Copics but whatever you color with your work is stunning & always a delight to see. I can see a major shopping spree coming up as those little Pips are calling my name ... they are adorable ...
ReplyDeleteBig hugs from Montana, Janie
Hiya Elaine ,
ReplyDeleteHow are you? Having a Great Bank Holiday weekend!
Good luck with Hal's results and have a great time for Phil's Birthday!
Oh see you WUMMIN, your colouring is absolutley wonderful - Di's or Copic's!
You are ace at Di's and it is your comfort zone - BUT what the HECK do you see in this gorgeous CARD that is so distressing?
Copic's- the first time I tried them - I literally cried and had a massive strop!
They drove me nuts , I could not control then, I had blur, streaks and OMG I was devestated and was convinced I was the worst and could not colour in at all!
Put in a box and sore at them a lot - One day a few months later I thought - You are not beating me mate and got them out.
The trick and tip is Elaine - it is new and the pen nibs are different - Think of them as paint brushes and use the smallest and lightest touch.
You don't need any tips, really - amazing colouring - all you need is to get used to them - they are very different and a shock to use the first time as you think hey this is strange and not a pen!
You are too hard on yourself - seriously!
You RAWK at Colouring!
Take care
Big Hugs
Casper

Elaine,
ReplyDeleteFirst I had a good laugh and then thought what I could say. Copics (like everything else) take practice...for a first go you di fabulouse and you are far to critical of yourself. Don't throw them out.....PLEASE! You will do fine and there are some great tutorials on how to color with them that may help you. Or you could come to my house and play with me! Now, uncap those and give them another go.....hugs patty
Hi Elaine I have the promarkers and find they are a little thick in places but now with the fine nib it is much better. never tried the copics would love to get them one day. Cant see why yoor not happy this is stunning. used to watercolour but now this a challenge.
ReplyDeleteoops forgot to say hope hubby had a great day.
ReplyDeleteHi Elaine! I came back look at this card again because I loved your coloring and when I reread your post more carefully, I could not believe you weren't happy with the results or with copics. OMGosh, on your first attempt you colored so beautifully and you didn't like it--wish I could do half as badly, LOL! Don't throw away your copics--you did a gorgeous job!!!
ReplyDeleteYou may get 2 messages from me as one just vanished!!!!
ReplyDeleteNow then mrs, one is talking out of one's bottom if one doesn't mind one saying so lol.
Your Copic colouring looks fab to me
Elaine, soooooo much better than my first attempt which went straight in the bin!
Your card is absolutely gorgeous hun, the image is adorable and unless you've been taking tips from "what's her name" and been using photoshop your colouring IS beautiful :)
Don't you go giving up on the Copics, I kept putting mine away and reaching for my inks again and again but being stubborn I got there in the end and love them now :)
hugs Mandy xx
