Where does the time go to? I turn my back and suddenly it's my favourite day again... Sugar Bowl day.
As always, we have a sketch to follow, this time from Sweetie Maria with an optional them of "One for the Boys".
Where do I start? I have but 3 simple rules for crafting.
(I do not wish to offend anyone here, this is simply my personal opinion)
1) No grunge. I hate grunge in all forms.
2) No distressing the edges of papers with those scraper things...why buy pretty papers just to ruin them?
3) Finally...No BOYS! I hate making boy cards!
So I groaned, then I re-read the email a dozen times just in case the theme might magically change the more times I opened the email, I moaned and whined, and then I pulled up my big knickers and got stuck in.
I have to admit, I own very few boy images since I don't use them and I was struggling to find anything that would be suitable until the lovely Pat suggested a baby stamp...aha...I'm sure I have one somewhere!
The image is Vintage Baby and he's coloured with a mix of DI re-inkers and markers. The papers are a really old set by Cloud 9. The sentiment was cut out with a Whimsy die, the star was cut with a Spellbinder die, a little gingham button tied with cord and a few pearls.
It's a little on the plain side (even for me!) but it did turn out much better than I expected.
I did a bit of sketch flipping just because I liked it better this way around :)
As always, there is a fantastic prize for one lucky winner chosen at random, their choice of any 4 Sugar Nellie stamps, rising to 6 stamps if we reach 100+ entries.
Now if I can do it and break out a boy stamp then I'm darn sure anyone can do it! So I hope you'll rise to the challenge and show us your fantastic boy cards :)
Please pop over to the Sugar Bowl to see all the other Sweeties fabulous cards.
Next...have you seen this?
The DT call for Sugar Nellie. There's still a few days left to get your entry in!
Thanks for looking
Love

Oh Elaine...you crack me up, I swear!! I love your 3 rules...your wort nightmare would be a distressed, boy, grunge theme. Yikes...I sure hope THAT doesn't happen! haha!! Your card is gorgeous, sweetie! I so wish I could do DIs as beautifully as you do! But that would take practice...and then I'd REALLY have no time to cook and clean (not that I do much of that anyway! LOL!) Such gorgeous papers! You rocked this challenge (now I hope we're good with boy cards for a while! hehehe!!) Mwahhhh! Pat Frank
ReplyDeleteHiya hon
ReplyDeleteOoooh well this is a fabulous boy card... and I love the say you've side-stepped slightly!! hehe! I would be exactly the same, I really struggle to do anything for boys/men and end up at our local card shop buying one!
I really love your colouring with DI's... am going to have to take lessons methinks!
Hope Hal has recovered after his adventures - and that you've got to the end of the muddy washing!!
Big hugs
Christine x

ReplyDeleteHugs from Brazil, Luciana.
You certainly rose to that challenge & it definitely fits the bill for someone who does not do "CUTE." It might seem plain but it's classy too & I think it looks right as it is - I certainly couldn't have blinged it any more for sometimes things just need to stay less gaudy....er... I mean embellished...... now where did that g word come from?

Oh Elaine that made me laugh. I love making boy's cards, posted one today. I used to hate distressing too but now I love it and a bit of grunge too, not too much. This is so cute, not seen that image before. As for the DT call I mus have been of the first to apply. Great opportunity.
ReplyDeletetotally gorgeous card Elaine, love it x

Gorgeous card, it was a good idea to make it a baby boy one. I don't have any little boy stamps, and struggle to make a MAN card. Thank goodness your bank stepped in, I hate being told lies it makes me even more angrier. I hate the thought of working all my days and some git sitting on their backsides trying to steal it from me. Shame on M&S,somebody's not doing their job properly.Sorry is a great word, rolls off the tongue but can mean absolutely nothing.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous gorgeous card sweetie ♥♥

Hi Elaine
ReplyDeletelove your card. Just been catching up with your blog post's (been over to France, & didn't get a chance to even switch the computer on, let alone visit any one's blog) lol. I felt so sorry for you reading about Hal's adventure's, I know what it is like worrying about them, I'd like to tell you it get's easier the older they get, BUT I'd be lying & then when the Grankids come along you worry about them too. My lovely boy is doing the London to Brighton bike ride tomorrow, & I know I'm going to be worried sick all day, (until he gets home), he has strict instructions to phone Mum once he has finished. Hubby thinks I am mad worrying about him, he said what on earth do you think is going to happen to him, I said my biggest fear is that some inpatient driver will run into him. Oh the joys of being a Mum lol.
hugs

Oooh you are naughty - stop telling me about PTI!!!! It's costing me a fortune! Just got my mountain of stuff delivered (along with a great big import bill), and then you tell me there is some new stuff on their website - I must resist looking - I must not look I must not look I must not look!!! ;o)
Hope you have a wonderful week.
Take care
I MUST NOT LOOK I MUST NOT LOOK I MUST NOT LOOK!

I feel the same way you do about boy cards, or at lest I did until I made the life altering discovery that I could make boy cards if I just used my regular style, and just used colors that arent too girly. I am sure you could make beautiful boy cards. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so sweet, smart to go for a baby image.
I love how you always make the sentiments blend so perfectly, I have a really hard time with sentiments. Stunning coloring, great pearls and stars. :)
Hugs, Anne.
Hi Sweetheart, hope you sorted your problem out with MS, wow love your card that image is so cute, and your whole card design is just stunning. hugs Shirleyx

Gorgeous card. I love the cute image (this is the first time I see it), and you coloured it beautifully, as usual should I add.
ReplyDeleteGreat inspiration, especially as I just had a baby boy 4 weeks ago and need ideas to move away from my usual pink cards!
Laetitia xx
I am sorta surprised you don't have more boy stamps, I would have thought having Hal you would have more but I guess having ironed knickers is more important than cards to him! Absolutely gorgeous card, I love the deep shading on his skin, so very pretty and so very you. Hugs, Me
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely boy image, I have been collecting boy images since I knew I was to be a Grandma to a little boy, they could come in handy if only I can make them on time!
ReplyDeleteCazzy x
This is adorable! I love your colouring of the skin, it adds so much depth! Laura x
